Oggi è passata un po’ in sordina, ma in Russia, Ex Unione Sovietica, si celebrano i 60 anni del primo volo spaziale della storia. Jurij Gagarin, cosmonauta sovietico fu il primo a varcare i confini terrestri a bordo della Vostok 1.
Il lancio avvenne all’09.07 dell’ora locale di Mosca, Gagarin aveva scelto come nominativo di missione l’appellativo “Cedro”
Korolev: “fase preliminare … intermedia … principale … decollo! Ti auguriamo un buon volo. È tutto a posto.” Gagarin: “Andiamo! Arrivederci, fino a quando [ci incontriamo] presto, cari amici”– sono frammenti delle comunicazioni radio intercorse con la sala di controllo.
I 5 motori del Vostok 1, nel primo stadio rombarono, distaccando i 4 razzi laterali e lasciarono solo il motore centrale, che si distaccò durante il volo suborbitale. Lo stadio superiore spingeva verso l’orbita terrestre. Alla fine della fase di propulsione, anche lo stadio superiore si separò dalla navicella, che rimase in orbita per 108 minuti, portando a termine un’orbita ellittica intorno al pianeta Terra. La massima altitudine raggiunta fu di 302 km e la minima di 175 km, ad una velocità media di 27.400 km. Durante il volo, con un ordine speciale, Gagarin venne promosso a pilota militare di prima classe con il grado di maggiore.
